Duke football set to wear black helmets against Florida State on Friday

Duke football will wear black helmets again on Friday night against Florida State, this time with blue jerseys.

In an appropriate announcement for a night game at Wallace Wade Stadium, the Duke Blue Devils will wear black helmets against the Florida State Seminoles on Friday night.

Duke will wear blue jerseys and black pants for the game as well, the second time in three games that they’ll wear a black outfit for a night game in Durham.

The last time Duke wore black at home, the Blue Devils put together an all-black outfit for their historic comeback against the North Carolina Tar Heels. UNC scored the first 20 points of the game, but Duke running back Star Thomas finished with 211 yards from scrimmage as the offense scored three touchdowns over the final 21 minutes for the second-largest recovery in school history. Thomas earned ACC Running Back of the Week honors for that performance.

The Blue Devils wore white helmets in their first two home games against Elon and Connecticut, winning both games.

With five wins in the team’s first six games, Duke would clinch a bowl appearance with a victory over the 1-5 Seminoles.
