Browns RB Nick Chubb opens up on not being drafted by Patriots in 2018

Nick Chubb was disappointed the Patriots didn’t draft him in 2018

The New England Patriots passed on Nick Chubb in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. Now, the Cleveland Browns star running back is opening up about how he felt after being passed over by the team.

New England took Chubb’s teammate, running back Sony Michel, with the 31st overall selection in the draft. Chubb ended up going to Cleveland in the second round, and he has produced at a high level since getting drafted. The four-time Pro Bowler has recorded 6,511 career rushing yards and 48 touchdowns.

Chubb wrote a piece in the Players’ Tribune and talked about his feelings on draft night:

On Draft Night, when I slipped into the second round, it was so crazy because it wasn’t just that I slipped — it was that my dog, my roommate Sony ended up getting drafted by the Patriots in the first round, and of course I was super happy for him, but then my other dog, our roommate Isaiah Wynn, he gets picked by New England, too. So I’m sitting there with my family at a Buffalo Wild Wings, and everybody’s trying to put on their game face and not act all disappointed, and I’m on the group text with my guys like: Mannnn, y’all going to Foxborough with Tom and Bill…..

Not selecting Chubb was certainly a draft miss by the Patriots.

Nevertheless, Michel ended up being a vital part of the 2018 Super Bowl-winning team. His run with the team was cut short, and he was ultimately traded to the Los Angeles Rams after three seasons in New England.

One has to wonder how the Patriots’ history would have played out if they selected Chubb instead.
