Iowa Hawkeyes, Michigan State Spartans both climb in CBS Sports 134 Rankings

The Iowa Hawkeyes and Michigan State Spartans each climb in this week’s CBS Sports 134 rankings ahead of their Big Ten football matchup.

This week sees the Iowa Hawkeyes hit the road once again in Big Ten play and make a trip to an opponent’s stadium that they haven’t been to since 2017.

That opponent is the Michigan State Spartans. They two have played twice since then, both in Kinnick Stadium in 2020 and 2023. Iowa won the 2020 game 49-7 and took the 2023 matchup 26-16.

Michigan State’s last win came in 2017 when they knocked off Iowa 17-10. The Spartans are 3-3 overall (1-2 Big Ten) this season and get another chance to take down the Hawkeyes on their home turf.

This year’s matchup sees a 4-2 (2-1 Big Ten) Iowa squad entering East Lansing off of a strong 40-16 win over the Washington Huskies while the Spartans are going to be well-rested as they enter coming off of a bye week.

Iowa, who won in convincing fashion, sees a climb in the CBS Sports 134 Rankings as well as the Spartans, despite the bye week.

The Hawkeyes saw a seven-spot climb up to No. 34 in the country while the Spartans were granted a jump of four spots up to No. 66 nationally.

Michigan State started the year 3-0 rattling off wins against Florida Atlantic, Maryland, and Prairie View A&M. Since then, they have hit an 0-3 skid with losses to Boston College, Ohio State, and Oregon.

Iowa and Michigan State are slated to kickoff on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 6:30 p.m. in a game that will air on NBC.
