Following a disappointing end to their 2023-24 season, the North Carolina Tar Heels feel like they have some unfinished business. While they lose Armando Bacot, Cormac Ryan, and Harrison Ingram, they do return a good amount of players from last year’s team.
They also welcome in a three-player recruiting class and some additions from the transfer portal.
But what do the experts think of North Carolina’s roster? Ahead of the season, KenPom has released its first rankings. The rankings are based on a NetRating which is an adjusted efficiency margin based on an offensive rating and a defensive rating.
For North Carolina, they check in at No. 14 with a 22.14 rating overall. That slots them behind only Duke in the ACC as the Blue Devils checked in at No. 2 in the rankings behind only Houston.
North Carolina is 14th in offensive rating at 112.6 rating and No. 17 in defensive with a 90.4 rating.
The KenPom rankings are pretty respected among fans and analysts as they trust the system which is updated throughout the season. It’s a metric that you will see referenced often as the season goes on.
North Carolina will begin their season at home against Elon with a 9 p.m. tipoff on November 4th. They will then hit the road and play at Kansas on November 8th.
