How does Alabama’s struggle win affect their Week 8 AP Poll ranking?

Week 8 AP Poll sees a shake-up after two top-ten teams lose.

It took all 60 minutes, but the Alabama Crimson Tide knocked off South Carolina 27-25, setting up a top-15 showdown with No. 11 Tennessee in Knoxville next Saturday. Fortunately, the Volunteers didn’t look a ton better this past weekend narrowly beating Florida 23-17 in OT.

The reality is that the SEC is just really deep this year, even Georgia isn’t rolling past teams like Mississippi State as we have seen in years past. Alabama was openly mocked for their loss to Vanderbilt, but the Commodores just narrowly missed being ranked in the Week 8 AP Poll after receiving the 26th most votes. The Crimson Tide remain ranked No. 7 with Texas still holding the top spot.

Getting past Tennessee this upcoming weekend is vital for Alabama’s Playoff hopes, but No. 5 Georgia at No. 1 Texas is another game Tide fans will need to keep an eye on as it will have massive implications on the race for an SEC title berth. I think even with two-losses, Alabama and Georgia are both still in good positions to make the Playoff, but I’d prefer to not test that theory.
