Nebraska continues to make strong push for Alabama commit

The Huskers pursued Dawson Merritt heavily over the summer

It may be the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ bye week, but the coaching staff is not resting. They have sent out a ton of offers this week, and coach Matt Rhule and linebackers coach Rob Dvoracek were on the road on Thursday to check out five-star linebacker Dawson Merritt.

Merritt committed to Alabama on June 26. According to the 247Sports composite rankings, he is the 14th-ranked linebacker in the 2025 class and the fourth-ranked player from the state of Kansas. The linebacker measures six feet three inches and weighs 215 pounds.

Merritt is off to a strong start this season. He has been a cornerstone for the Blue Valley High School defense this season, recording 27 total tackles and a sack in four games this season, according to statistics from Maxpreps.com. He is looking to build from the 2023 campaign that saw him tally 83 tackles and seven sacks on the year.

This staff has been known to flip several players during a recruiting cycle. It will be interesting to see if they can do the same for Merritt, as they were in a tight recruiting battle with Alabama this summer.
