The Denver Broncos officially signed wide receiver A.T. Perry to their practice squad on Wednesday, coach Sean Payton announced after practice.

Perry is a former New Orleans Saints player who was cut last week. He was sidelined for the first five games of the season with hand and hamstring injuries but is now healthy.

Sean Payton was coaching in Denver when the Saints used a sixth-round draft pick to select Perry in last year’s draft, but Broncos VP of Player Personnel Cody Rager was part of New Orleans’ front office when they drafted Perry.

Pete Carmichael, a senior offensive assistant in Denver, also served as the Saints’ offensive coordinator last season. So while Payton does not have past experience coaching Perry, members of Payton’s staff are certainly familiar with the wide receiver.

The Broncos had room for Perry on the practice squad after promoting linebacker Levelle Bailey to the active roster on Tuesday.

Perry (6-5, 205 pounds) hauled in 12 receptions for 246 yards and four touchdowns in 10 games (three starts) with the Saints last fall. The 24-year-old receiver played college football at Wake Forest.
