The good, bad and ugly of the SEC entering Week 7

See what the SEC has to offer in the good, the bad and the ugly entering Week 7.

Well, just one week after taking down the Georgia Bulldogs in one of the most exciting regular season matchups in recent history, the Alabama Crimson Tide suffered one of the biggest stumbles in program history in a Week 6 road loss to the Vanderbilt Commodores.

The major upset is one of the top storylines within the SEC which makes up this week’s Good, Bad and Ugly as we get into Week 7 of the college football season.

Fans of college football and the SEC have a lot to look forward to this weekend, including an epic rivalry making its debut in the conference. As we break down what happened last week and what’s to come, fans should always keep an eye on everything going on within the strongest college football conference.

Here’s the Good, the Bad and the Ugly of the SEC as we enter Week 7 of the 2024 college football season.

The Good

The Red River Rivalry will be played as an in-conference SEC matchup for the first time. The Oklahoma Sooners and the Texas Longhorns may be newcomers in the SEC, but this rivalry is one of the most historic in all of college football.

Not to mention, Texas is the top-ranked team in the nation and Oklahoma is a top-25 ranked program. Not only is this a must-watch contest because of the history involved, but it also has serious implications for the SEC and College Football Playoff.

The Bad

Mississippi State continues to struggle, despite having a somewhat surprising performance in the Bulldogs’ 35-13 loss to Texas on the road. What stings the most is that, when looking at the upcoming schedule for Mississippi State, only two of the remaining seven opponents are unranked.

If we assume Mississippi State can win those two games, but drop all other contests against ranked opponents, head coach Jeff Lebby is looking at a 3-9 finish in his first season in Starkville.

The Ugly

Alabama. Do I really need to say more? As previously mentioned, the Crimson Tide held on at home to take down Georgia in Week 5, then became the No. 1 team in the nation in Week 6.

However, a hideous loss on the road to Vanderbilt led to a fun night in Nashville for Commodores fans, but resulted in what some are considering the ugliest loss in the Crimson Tide’s recent history.

Alabama will look to take out its frustration in Week 7 at home against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
