The vibes are rising for Auburn ahead of bye week

Auburn may not have won its most recent game, but The Athletic’s Seth Emerson came away impressed with their performance against No. 4 Georgia.

Auburn football takes a 2-4 record into its much-needed bye week and will take a three-game losing streak into its next game at No. 19 Missouri on Oct. 19.

At times, the Tigers’ on-field performance has left fans pessimistic about the rest of the season. However, one expert feels that Auburn may be heading in a more positive direction. Seth Emerson of The Athletic recently updated his weekly SEC vibes rankings and has advanced Auburn to No. 13, up three spots from the floor of the conference.

Despite its most recent loss to No. 4 Georgia, Emerson thinks that Auburn is improving each week by diminishing one aspect of its game.

By scoring margin, it was Auburn’s worst loss of the season. By actual performance, it was the best loss, validation that when this team doesn’t turn the ball over it can be halfway competitive.

On paper, Auburn played a close game with the Georgia Bulldogs last Saturday on the road. Georgia out-gained Auburn, 381-337, and created three more first down opportunities, 21-18. However, the difference came down to scoring opportunities. Georgia scored on all four of its red zone chances while Auburn managed to score twice on its only two red zone opportunities. Georgia also won the battle on third down, converting 50% of their chances while Auburn only converted four of its 12 opportunities.

Auburn will have the chance to correct several issues with an extra week of practice leading up to its date with Missouri, and will have the shot to take down a few quality opponents such as Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, and Alabama in the second half of the season.
