Texas A&M CB Will Lee III is playing at an elite level

Junior cornerback Will Lee III is slowly becoming one of the better cornerbacks in the country

Texas A&M’s 41-10 win over the Missouri Tigers on Saturday night proved that, when fully healthy, the Aggies are one of the best teams in the SEC, as starting quarterback Conner Weigman had one of his best outings after missing the last three games due to a shoulder injury.

However, Texas A&M’s defense has improved in every aspect, especially against the run. The secondary has also continued to improve due to the impressive play of junior cornerback Will Lee III, who is quickly becoming one of the best defenders on the roster.

Just hours before the game, Lee was accused of sending Missouri wide receiver Theo Wease Jr. a Texas A&M embroidered blanket and a humorous note, which Lee further denied. Still, nevertheless, Wease wore the blanket like a cape during pregame warm-ups.

Lined up against Will Lee for most of the game, the junior corner didn’t allow a catch in five targets and 43 coverage snaps while recording his eighth pass breakup on the year, which is the most in the country thus far.

Lee’s sticky press coverage and untethered confidence against any wide receiver, no matter the talent level, have led to his continued success. Heading into the bye week, head coach Mike Elko and defensive coordinator Jay Bateman have to feel good about the state of the Aggie cornerback room despite likely losing senior Tyreek Chappell for the year.

Per Pro Football Focus, Lee earned a 62.5 defensive grade, a 76.6 tacking grade, and a 61.0 coverage grade.
