Is Penn State one of the four best teams in the country? According to the latest AP Top 25 poll, yes.
Penn State moved up three spots amid some reshuffling of the AP Top 25 this week and is now ranked no. 4 in the nation, behind only top-ranked Texas and fellow Big Ten teams Ohio State (no. 2) and Oregon (no. 3). Penn State could potentially be ranked in the top-three a week from now if it can get a road win at USC this week. Ohio State and Oregon will go head-to-head in Week 7 out on the West Coast.
Penn State and Oregon each moved up three spots from their AP ranking from a week ago after picking up conference wins this weekend. Each passed over no. 5 Georgia and moving ahead of no. 7 Alabama and no. 8 Tennessee after the Crimson Tide and Volunteers each lost this weekend.
In addition to Penn State, Ohio State, and Oregon, the Big Ten is also represented in the AP Top 25 this week by no. 18 Indiana, no. 23 Illinois, and no. 24 Michigan. USC fell out of the AP Top 25 after its road loss at Minnesota, removing Penn State’s potential top-25 matchup from the mix this coming weekend.
This is Penn State’s highest AP Top 25 ranking since being no. 4 after jumping out to a 5-0 start in 2021. Penn State will look to avoid repeating history as the Nittany Lions then lost on the road the following week and spiraled out of the top 25 in the second half of the season.
