Alabama commit named to National Player of the Year watch list

The five-star’s senior season is off to a phenomenal start.

After a phenomenal start to his high school senior season, Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback commit Keelon Russell has been named to the watch list for the 2024 MaxPreps National Player of the Year.

Russell was one of 10 total players named to the list Thursday alongside the likes of fellow top quarterbacks in the cycle – Bryce Underwood and Julian Lewis – as well as Auburn running back commit Alvin Henderson.

Playing for one of the nation’s top teams, Duncanville High School in Texas, Russell has so far led the Panthers to an undefeated 4-0 record that includes a 28-24 victory over national power St. Francis Academy in Maryland. Over that span, Russell has completed 75% of his passes for 1,437 yards and a 19:0 TD:INT ratio, while also rushing for 125 yards and a touchdown.

The highest-rated commitment in Alabama’s 2025 class, Russell has been committed to the Crimson Tide since June of 2024. Russell also ranks as the nation’s No. 11 overall player according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, with the five-star prospect also considered the No. 3 quarterback in the class.

Russell’s senior season will resume next week on the road at Texas’ DeSoto High School.
