Duke football will wear black for second straight week, this time with white helmets

The Duke football team announced on Thursday that the Blue Devils will wear black for a second straight week, this time with white helmets.

The Duke football team will wear black jerseys for the second straight week against Georgia Tech on Saturday, this time paired with white helmets and pants.

The all-black look served the Blue Devils well against the North Carolina Tar Heels in Week 5. UNC scored the first 20 points of the game, but the Duke offense strung together three second-half touchdowns thanks to running back Star Thomas’s 211 yards from scrimmage.

The comeback, the second-largest in school history, secured Duke’s first 5-0 start in three decades and earned Thomas ACC Running Back of the Week honors.

The Blue Devils didn’t play Georgia Tech in 2023, the first time since 1933 that the two academic powerhouses didn’t meet on the football field. In their previous game two years ago, another trip to Atlanta, the Yellow Jackets beat Duke 23-20 in overtime. Georgia Tech also won the previous two meetings before that, but the Blue Devils won five times in six years from 2014-19.
