Danny Sprinkle and the Washington Huskies lost their first recruiting battle on Thursday evening when four-star small forward Jasir Rencher announced his commitment to coach Buzz Williams and the Texas A&M Aggies.
Rencher chose the Aggies over LSU, Oklahoma, New Mexico, and the Huskies.
“Choosing a school was by far the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” Rencher told On3’s Joe Tipton. “I was really down to 2 schools that both fit me really well on and off the court. But I chose Texas A&M because they had been recruiting me for a long time. It’s a beautiful campus. They’re about their players. And like I said before they fit me on and off the court.”
“Coach Buzz is a magnificent teacher on and off the court,” he continued. “He was the first high major coach to know my name, and he’s had a belief in me since then. He also has 19 NBA players as a head coach, so he knows what he’s doing, and he knows what a pro looks like.”
Sprinkle’s coaching staff has extended offers to nine small forwards in the 2025 class, and following Rencher’s announcement, five remain uncommitted. Washington’s recruiting strategy under Sprinkle’s regime remains unclear, but is sure to include a healthy mix of the high school ranks and the transfer portal.
