Falcons elevate two players from practice squad for Bucs game

The Falcons have elevated two players from the practice squad for Thursday night’s game against the Buccaneers

The Atlanta Falcons (2-2) are less than four hours away from kicking off their Week 5 NFC South matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (3-1) on Thursday night football.

According to team reporter Terrin Waack, the Falcons have elevated offensive lineman Matt Hennessy and linebacker Josh Woods to the active roster as their two Week 5 practice squad elevations.

With injuries at center and inside linebacker, the team could use the extra depth on Thursday night. Starting center Drew Dalman is on the injured reserve list due to a high-ankle sprain while linebacker Troy Andersen has been ruled with a knee injury.

Hennessy, a former third-round draft pick by the Falcons, was signed to the practice squad last week and elevated for the team’s Week 4 win over the New Orleans Saints. Woods has yet to be elevated but can help provide depth behind Kaden Elliss and rookie JD Bertrand against the Buccaneers.

Bertrand is in line to make his first NFL start in Week 5. The fifth-round pick out of Notre Dame is the only rookie to play any meaningful reps for Atlanta thus far in 2024.

Thursday night’s game kicks off at 8:15 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime. The Falcons are slight favorites and could move into first place with a win over their division rivals. Check back for the team’s inactives list at 6:45 p.m. ET.
