Las Vegas Raiders All-Pro receiver Davante Adams has informed the team that he prefers to be traded, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Raiders are looking for a second-round draft pick and additional compensation for a potential trade for the star wideout.
The New England Patriots are a long-shot option for a 31-year-old receiver who isn’t happy with a bad quarterback situation on a 2-2 Raiders team. How would he feel about lining up for arguably the worst offense in the NFL?
That doesn’t mean Patriots lead personnel executive Eliot Wolf shouldn’t put in a phone call. Adams might not like the idea of catching passes from Jacoby Brissett, but he could warm up to the thought of catching passes from rookie quarterback Drake Maye.
Perhaps even the arrival of a top-tier playmaker like Adams would convince the Patriots to start Maye at quarterback. Granted, the offensive line is still in shambles, but Maye would at least have a shot at success with a much-improved receiving corps.
With that said, the Patriots would be better off going after a younger option, like Cincinnati Bengals wideout Tee Higgins. Perhaps they could swing a trade in the season if the Bengals continue to struggle, or they could make a run at him when he hits free agency in 2025.
Adams would be a better fit for a team with a great quarterback situation and a roster capable of competing for a Super Bowl right now.
That currently isn’t the Patriots.
