Roger Rosengarten paves the way for Derrick Henry in first NFL start

The Baltimore Ravens ran all over the Buffalo Bills in Roger Rosengarten’s first career start.

On Derrick Henry’s first touch against the Buffalo Bills, the Baltimore Ravens running back exploded through the B-gap thanks to a massive hole that was opened up by former Washington Huskies right tackle Roger Rosengarten.

“I knew that play had a chance for a really big gain or a [tackle for loss],” Rosengarten told the media after the game. “We had the look we wanted for it, and it ended up hitting because Derrick outran two guys. Credit to him.”

Henry took the carry, Baltimore’s first play from scrimmage, for an 87-yard touchdown, which kicked off a 35-10 beatdown of the Bills on Sunday Night Football.

After the Ravens started the year 1-2, coach John Harbaugh opted to make a change along the offensive line, moving Patrick Mekari to left guard to replace the injured Andrew Vorhees while Rosengarten stepped in for his first career start, and it paid off instantly.

Henry ended up rushing for 199 yards, coming up one yard short of what would be an NFL record seventh 200-yard game. The Ravens’ rushing numbers outpaced the Bills offense as a whole, picking up 271 yards on the ground while Buffalo could only muster 237 for the game.

If Vorhees is sidelined for an extended period of time, Rosengarten could continue to assert himself as Baltimore’s long term solution at right tackle.
