With three straight wins under their belts, the Clemson Tigers have seen a steady rise in the US LBM Coaches Poll over the past fours weeks. That trend continued Sunday, one day after the Tigers defeated ACC newcomer Stanford, 40-14 in conference play.
The Tigers (3-1) rose one spot to No. 14 in the Week 5 Coaches Poll, the fourth straight week Clemson has moved up.
There’s also a new No. 1 team in the Coaches Poll for the first time this season: the Texas Longhorns. Texas moved to No. 1 after the previously top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs fell 41-34 in an instant classic against the Alabama Crimson Tide in a top 5 matchup in Tuscaloosa Saturday night. Alabama moved up two spots to No. 2.
Georgia fell to No. 5 after their first regular season loss since 2020. The Ohio State Buckeyes stayed at No. 3 while the Tennessee Volunteers (No. 4) jumped into the top 5 for the first time this season.
Elsewhere in the top 10, the Oregon Ducks (No. 6), Penn State Nittany Lions (No. 7) and Miami Hurricanes (No. 8) all moved up one spot following Week 5 wins. The Missouri Tigers moved back into the top 10, landing at No. 9. The defending national champion Michigan Wolverines reentered the top 10, as well, at No. 10.
In the ACC, the Louisville Cardinals slipped five spots to No. 22 after their 31-24 loss to No. 13 Notre Dame in South Bend. Miami, Clemson and Louisville are the only ranked ACC teams.
Kyle Whittingham’s Utah Utes suffered the biggest fall among ranked teams, dropping eight spots to No. 18 after their 23-10 loss to the Arizona Wildcats without quarterback Cam Rising.
The Ole Miss Rebels slid six spots to No. 11 after their 20-17 upset loss to the Kentucky Wildcats in Oxford.
Clemson heads to Tallahassee for their annual showdown with the Florida State Seminoles at 7 p.m. ET this Saturday. The game will be televised on ESPN. FSU fell, 42-16, to SMU over the weekend to drop to 1-4.
