Lincoln Riley explains second-half comeback and halftime adjustments vs Wisconsin

Lincoln Riley has a coaching staff which is good at making halftime adjustments. The real trick is to have USC prepared at the start of the game.

For the second week in a row, USC football came out flat to start the game. The Trojans found themselves trailing 21-10 at halftime to the Wisconsin Badgers. USC head coach Lincoln Riley discussed the turnaround in the second half, and what happened at halftime in the Trojans’ locker room:

“Just a really, really good speech. [Laughter] Trust me, it wasn’t that good. It was these guys. I think we came in just knowing that we just simply beat ourselves in a lot of ways. Wisconsin made some good plays, but we gave up explosive plays; we didn’t stop the run in the first half. We moved the ball pretty well offensively, but had the two turnovers in plus territory, then we had the big special teams play that got them momentum. So we just really didn’t do anything very well, but I think we all felt like a lot of it was under our control, and we kind of laid out exactly what we felt like the second half should look like. We knew the big deal was that each side of the ball has to hold up their end. We had to go get it started defensively, and we did. Each side of the ball has got to hold that, and if you do it, you get in a little bit of a momentum swing, and we were able to create that and really ride
it out the entire second half.”
