The NFL is a physical league looking to expand towards an 18-game regular season at some point. Injuries are unavoidable, and you can never have enough good quarterback talent on your roster.
Even with that tidbit, it’s interesting that before the Chicago Bears traded quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers, at least three other teams were involved in trade talks.
One of those three teams was the Baltimore Ravens, who already have a two-time, highly-paid MVP quarterback on their roster.
Fields made the admission on teammate Cam Heyward’s podcast but made it clear that he wanted to go somewhere that he would be able to compete for a starting job.
“I’m not sure of all the teams, but there were a lot of teams that already had solidified quarterbacks and I didn’t want to do that. Chargers were one, Ravens were another,” Fields said. “Raiders, they talked a little bit. I don’t know too much. Who else was in there I don’t know, but a lot of teams had solidified quarterbacks who just got new contracts so I didn’t want to be there.”
Fields was traded to Pittsburgh, where, through three games, the former first-round pick has completed 73.3 percent of his passes for 518 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
More importantly, the Steelers are 3-0 heading into a Week 4 matchup against the Colts in Indianapolis.
Baltimore will face Fields or Russell Wilson twice this season: once on November 17 in Pittsburgh and again on December 21.
