Week 4 win at MSU moves Florida up CBS Sports’ re-rank

The Gators are still way down the re-rankings but are working their way back up after the recent win.

Billy Napier and the Florida football team evened up their 2024 record last weekend with a strong 45-28 victory in Starkville over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Gators are now 2-2 overall and 1-1 in Southeastern Conference play with a bye in Week 5 and an in-state rival slated for the following weekend.

Subsequently, the Orange and Blue saw improvements in most of the rankings and ratings, including CBS Sports’ weekly re-rank, in which Florida saw a three-spot rise to No. 78 out of 134 FBS teams. That puts the Gators between the No. 77 San Jose State Trojans and No. 79 South Florida Bulls.

The Texas Longhorns remain in the top spot this week while the Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, Tennessee Volunteers and Alabama Crimson Tide follow, respectively, to round out the top five.

The Miami Hurricanes are re-ranked at No. 6, while the Ole Miss Rebels come in at No. 7, Penn State Nittany Lions at No. 8, Oregon Ducks at No. 9 and the Utah Utes wrapping things up at No. 10.

Up next for the Gators

The Gators will be out of action for Week 5 due to their bye week. Florida’s next opponent will be the UCF Knights on Oct. 5 at 7:15 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
