NFL Week 4 power rankings: Rams jump back into top 20 after beating 49ers

The Rams tumbled hard after getting crushed by the Cardinals but they bounced back with a statement win over the 49ers

When it comes to NFL power rankings, the Los Angeles Rams have been riding a roller coaster through the first three weeks. They opened the season around the middle of the pack and still managed to move up after taking the Lions to overtime in Week 1.

A 41-10 loss to the Cardinals caused the Rams to plummet outside the top 20, approaching the bottom of the league with all the injuries they suffered through two games.

Then they stunned the 49ers on Sunday with a remarkable fourth-quarter comeback and everyone is back believing the Rams are a top-20 team in the league. No team has experienced more volatility than the Rams in this year’s power rankings, bouncing up and down in each of the last two weeks.

Heading into Week 4, the majority of analysts have Los Angeles in the range of No. 15 and 19, which feels about right. When the Rams get healthy and some of their key starters return, they can rise even higher than that, so things are looking up.

Here’s how this week’s power rankings shook out.

CBS Sports: 19th (last week: 25th)

Bleacher Report: 16th (last week: 23rd)

ProFootballTalk: 18th (last week: 24th)

Yahoo Sports: 18th (last week: 25th)

The Athletic: 19th (last week: 26th)

FOX Sports: 17th (last week: 21st)

The Ringer: 15th (last week: 23rd)

High: 15th – Low: 19th – Average: 17.8

The Rams’ average position was 23.8 last week, so they moved up six spots on average after beating the 49ers. That loss caused San Francisco to tumble in most power rankings for Week 4, some even dropping the 49ers out of the top 10 altogether.

Up next, the Rams will face the 1-2 Chicago Bears, who have had one of the worst offenses in football but a defense that has held up well. Being on the road, it won’t be an easy game for the Rams, especially with Caleb Williams continuing to gain confidence and experience.
