Duke football cracks top 40 in USA TODAY Sports re-rank after blowout MTSU win

USA TODAY Sports released its college football re-rank on Monday, and the Blue Devils keep climbing higher and higher as they stack wins.

USA TODAY Sports’ Paul Myerberg released his college football rankings on Monday, a weekly piece in which he orders all 134 FBS programs from best to worst, and the Blue Devils moved up a half-dozen spots.

Duke beat Middle Tennessee 45-17 on the road on Saturday, improving to 4-0 for the second straight season, and Myerberg shifted the Blue Devils all the way up to 38th as they keep winning.

The move made Duke the sixth-highest ACC team in Myerberg’s rankings. The Miami Hurricanes broke into the top 10 after a 50-15 win over South Florida, and the Louisville Cardinals (13th) and Clemson Tigers (15th) remained their biggest challengers. Other than that, however, only Pittsburgh (28th) and Boston College (35th) finished above the Blue Devils.

The North Carolina Tar Heels, fresh off a stunning 70-50 upset loss to James Madison that prompted a bizarre speech from head coach Mack Brown, dropped 13 spots to 50th.

The Georgia Bulldogs remained in Myerberg’s top spot, as they have every week this season, with the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes in the next two spots.
