The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday night, with late-game heroics again taking center stage.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has led his team to a 3-0 record to start the 2024 season but isn’t satisfied with his performance. During his postgame press conference on Sunday night, the two-time league MVP told reporters he was not meeting his usual standards.

“Yeah. I mean, we haven’t played good. I mean, really, all three games we’ve been able to win. I mean, that speaks to the character of the team, the grit, how we’ve been in these situations before.” said Mahomes. “But I’ll speak especially offensively, and I feel like I haven’t played very well, and that’s not a stats thing. I just feel like I’m missing opportunities whenever they’re out there and not throwing the ball in the exact spot I wanted to be at.”

Mahomes threw another interception on Sunday night to go along with his two touchdown passes, but he hasn’t had the dominant showing we’ve witnessed in past seasons. It’s only been three games, but Mahomes is putting it on his radar as something he needs to fix.

“So it’s about me getting back to my fundamentals, putting our guys in the right position, and then we got to execute at a higher level offensively,” said Mahomes. “If teams are going to make us drive the field, we have to prove that we’re able to do that. And I’m sure we’ll get a lot of the same this next week with the Chargers.”

The Chiefs offense failed to keep a closing drive going in the fourth quarter, and the defense was again forced to finish the job and seal a victory.
