New England Patriots quarterback Jacoby Brissett will remain even-keeled if the team ultimately decides to replace him with rookie Drake Maye as the starter.
Brissett struggled in Thursday night’s 24-3 loss to the New York Jets. He went 12-of-18 on the evening, throwing for 98 yards. He has had a difficult start in the first three games of the season. He currently ranks 24th in the NFL with 368 passing yards, and he is tied for 22nd overall with one touchdown pass.
Coach Jerod Mayo initially said he didn’t know if there would be a quarterback change. When asked about those comments, Brissett had a veteran response ready at the hip.

On Friday, Mayo stuck up for Brissett and reaffirmed his position that the veteran would remain the starter in New England.
The quarterback position will be one to watch for the Patriots in the coming weeks. The team needs consistency at the position, and so far, it hasn’t been there.
Brissett was signed to the team back in March with the idea that he’d serve in the bridge quarterback role for a future rookie. Now, it’s a waiting game to see exactly when he’ll pass that proverbial torch.
