Dabo Swinney shares hilarious story about how he spent Saturday bye week

Dabo Swinney says he’s “got the YouTube TV going.”

Clemson Tigers coach Dabo Swinney is known for being folksy and down to earth, occasionally telling a humorous story or tossing in a funny anecdote that people catch on to for a soundbite.

If there’s such a thing as a “Dabo’s Greatest Hits” compilation, his story of how he spent last Saturday might make the list.

In this midst of his weekly press conference with reporters on Tuesday, Swinney grew excited when he was asked about his college football viewing habits with the Tigers having a Week 3 bye.

Swinney’s response, which touched on the intricacies of streaming games on his smartphone and other devices, made for a lighthearted moment.

“Man, I’m gonna tell you, I am a big YouTube TV guy now,” Swinney said enthusiastically. “I finally figured out how to get that frickin’ app on my phone. It’s like an act of Congress. I mean, you’ve got to have like birth certificates and all kinds of stuff to get some of these things. I don’t know all these codes: ‘Who’s Your Provider?’ It’s some crazy stuff on there.

“I had my phone going,” Swinney continued as he demonstrated with his hands for full effect. “I had my iPad going with four screens, and I had the TV going. I imagine some of y’all probably did the same thing — because it’s what you do for a living, right? Y’all gotta know what the heck’s going on. And we had a lot of teams playing that we’re going to play, and that’s really what I did all day. I just watched ball all day and it was awesome. Saw some good stuff, saw some bad stuff. Just enjoyed it.”

One of the teams Swinney watched was NC State, the Tigers’ opponent this Saturday. The Wolfpack defeated Louisiana Tech, 30-20, and will open ACC play at 2-1 overall.

Kickoff for Clemson vs. NC State is scheduled for noon ET. The game will be televised on ABC — and streamed, as well.
