Deion Sanders criticized the media for being too harsh on college athletes, jealous of their NIL money

Deion Sanders had some harsh criticism for those who are hard on college athletes.

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders wants the outside world to take it easy on college players.

During a session with media on Tuesday, Sanders unloaded on what he felt was deeply unfair treatment for college athletes that has shifted in a post-NIL environment.

Sanders painted himself as someone who really loves his Buffaloes players and wants to prepare them for what they may face on the outside, including from the reporters in the room with the Colorado coach.

“I just want to equip them with the weapons to win life because football has changed, the landscape has changed,” Sanders told reporters.

He went so far as to accuse outside voices, including some media members of being jealous of how much money college athletes are making on NIL deals.

Sanders is of course entitled to his opinion, and it wouldn’t be proper to question how he feels about his team.

However, Sanders has courted his own fair share of controversy and hasn’t always been kind to college athletes since arriving in Boulder, which make his sentiments feel just a bit thin.
