Former Bucs OC, current Panthers HC Dave Canales benches Bryce Young

They expected him to be able to get the most out of former top pick Bryce Young, but it seems that won’t be possible.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers saw Dave Canales rejuvenate Baker Mayfield and their entire offense. The NFL saw this and made him a hot head coaching target, with the Carolina Panthers ultimately pulling him away to help them beat their division rival.

They expected him to be able to get the most out of former top pick Bryce Young, but it seems that won’t be possible.

The team announced on Monday that after a 0-2 start and less-than-ideal performances from Bryce Young, they will bench him. Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will start in his place.

Canales and the Panthers rebuilt their offensive line this offseason and did their best to give him offensive weapons. Despite all of that, either Canales’s offense hasn’t clicked yet, or maybe it is the lack of exposure to it.

Either way, everyone knows owner David Tepper is not a patient man, so the coaching staff and front office felt they needed to make a move. It should make things interesting for their next matchup on December 1.
