Broncos QB Bo Nix accepts blame: ‘It starts with me’

“We have to start playing better, I think,” Broncos quarterback Bo Nix said. “It starts with me.”

After the Denver Broncos were held without a touchdown in a 13-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix was asked what Pittsburgh’s defense did defensively that made it so hard to move the ball.

“I don’t know,” Nix said after the game. “The film will tell us. I thought they had a good plan, and they executed well. They just got to the ball and tackled. We had a hard time getting in third-and-manageables again. We can’t keep just making that excuse. We have to start playing better, I think. It starts with me, and then it goes to the rest of the squad.”

Nix finished the game 20-of-35 for 246 yards with no touchdown passes and two interceptions. After the loss, Nix was asked if he was disappointed that he did not show more improvement from his NFL debut last week.

“I don’t know that that’s necessarily the case,” Nix said of not improving. “I think when you go back and watch the film, I think I took a good step. Sometimes good steps don’t turn into wins though. So it’s a long process. It’s a tough league for a reason. We just have to continue as a crew, as a group, find ways to get better, and build and take steps. I have to do the same.”

Nix will aim to take another step forward when Denver goes on the road to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3.
