Valparaiso turned a blocked field goal into first down on the wildest play of the day

How did they pull this off???

The Week 3 college football slate wasn’t the best we’ll see all year — College GameDay going to Columbia for South Carolina’s game against No. 16 LSU should have been the tell — so it shouldn’t be surprising that perhaps the wildest play we saw on Saturday came from the FCS ranks.

In the second quarter of Valparaiso’s matchup against NAIA Indiana Wesleyan, a 50-yard field goal attempt was blocked, which would spell disaster nine times out of 10.

But not for the Beacons, who were the beneficiaries of both quick thinking and good fortune. The block bounced right into the hands of the holder, who escaped the pressure and found a receiver on an ad-hoc downfield passing play to get the ball inside the 10-yard line.

Valpo would ultimately get a second shot at the field goal, this time from a much friendlier 24 yards, and it sailed through the uprights.

Deserving of SportsCenter top 10 consideration, if I do say so myself.
