Where Clemson football ranks in Eric Mac Lain’s Week 3 ACC rankings

Clemson remains one of the best teams in the ACC.

ACC Network analyst Eric Mac Lain has released his updated ACC power rankings ahead of Week 3, and Clemson finds itself ranked at No. 3. The Tigers, currently 1-1, are placed behind Miami at the top spot and Louisville in second. Both teams are undefeated at 2-0 and have impressed early in the season, while Clemson continues to regain its footing after an opening loss.
Behind Clemson in Mac Lain’s rankings are Boston College and Syracuse, both also undefeated and pushing their way into the conversation as contenders in the ACC. Clemson’s place at No. 3 reflects its potential, but it still has room to improve as it heads into a critical stretch of conference games.

The Tigers have a bye week before returning to the field for their ACC opener against NC State on September 21. NC State, with a 1-1 record, is currently ranked No. 13 in Mac Lain’s power rankings. This matchup in Death Valley will be pivotal for both teams as they look to gain an edge in conference play.

Following the NC State game, Clemson will face Stanford on September 28 for Homecoming. Stanford, also 1-1, sits at No. 15 in Mac Lain’s rankings. The Tigers will then take on Florida State on the road on October 5. Florida State has struggled this season, starting 0-2 in ACC play, and has been ranked last in Mac Lain’s rankings, placing 17th overall. I highly doubt he believes in that ranking, but it’s classic shade from a Clemson guy.

Clemson’s upcoming games present an opportunity to solidify its place in the conference standings and potentially climb higher in Mac Lain’s rankings as the season progresses. With strong performances in these matchups, the Tigers have a chance to reaffirm their status as a top contender in the ACC.
