Husker soccer open Big Ten play with 2-0 loss to No. 17 Iowa

Nebraska dropped their Big Ten opener on Thursday night.

The Nebraska soccer team opened Big Ten action on Thursday night with a big clash against No. 17 Iowa. The Hawkeyes and Huskers battled throughout, but Iowa emerged victorious in the end with a 2-0 win.

Both teams took 13 shots, with Iowa shooting seven on goal while Nebraska got six. The Huskers failed to score for the second straight match and did not score in Big Ten play for the first time since early September 2021.

Sarah Weber led Nebraska with four shots, three on goal in the match. She currently sits in ninth all-time for shots on goal with 117. She’s also fourth in school history in total shots with 284 and is four shots shy of taking third.

Jordan Zade finished behind Weber with three shots, two on goal. Goalie Cece Villa, meanwhile, made five saves after facing seven shots on goal in the loss.

Nebraska falls to 3-4 on the season and will continue their trip out east for Big Ten action, traveling to the state of Michigan for a pair of matches with the Spartans and Wolverines. The Huskers face Michigan State on Thursday night. The match is set for 5:00 p.m. CT on Big Ten Network.
