The best photos from Washington’s last two Apple Cup victories

Washington has won the last two Apple Cups and is looking for its third-straight victory on Saturday.

After a crushing loss in 2021 in Seattle, the Washington Huskies have turned in impressive performances in the last two Apple Cups. In 2022, the Huskies went into Pullman and reclaimed their coveted prize with a 51-33 victory.

Quarterback Michael Penix Jr. was stellar in his Apple Cup debut, throwing for 485 yards and 3 touchdowns while rushing for an additional 34 yards and 2 scores. Jalen McMillan and Rome Odunze combined for 307 receiving yards, and running back Wayne Taulapapa rushed for 126 yards and a score.

2023 saw a much closer affair, as the Huskies snuck by the upstart Cougars 24-21, as Washington State was undoubtedly frustrated that it would be the final conference game between the two teams as Washington was preparing to make its exit for the Big Ten.

The game came down to the final possession when offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb called an end around for Odunze on fourth and one deep in Washington’s own territory. The All-American receiver took the carry for 23 yards to help set up Grady Gross’ 42-yard field goal to win the game.

Washington leads the series 76-33-6, and Saturday’s installment of the annual matchup at Lumen Field is sure to be another exciting chapter in the game’s legacy.
