A mic’d-up Baker Mayfield compared not doubling Mike Evans to racing on Mario Kart’s most infamous course

Baker Mayfield is a poet.

Last Sunday against the Washington Commanders, Baker Mayfield looked like the NFL’s best quarterback. Well, at least for a week. Now, part of that was undoubtedly playing against the Commanders’ awful secondary. But part of it was also the specter of Mike Evans, who is liable to go off against any defender and any defense at any given time.

In a new mic’d-up video from NFL Films, Mayfield questions why the Commanders didn’t double Evans after he scored one of his two touchdowns in single coverage. It’s a fair question to ask about one of the best playmakers in pro football.

Mayfield goes as far as to compare the dubious decision to choosing to race Mario Kart’s Rainbow Road course without … a computer drive (?) in your video game system:

Well, Mayfield’s analogy could use a little polishing, but you get the gist.

Why race Rainbow Road, a course built to fluster Mario Kart players, with your hands tied behind your back? That’s basically the same thing as leaving any cornerback on an island with a future Hall of Fame receiver like Evans.
