Raheem Mostert ruled out vs. Bills, ‘we will see’ about De’Von Achane

The Dolphins’ running back depth will be tested Thursday night.

The Miami Dolphins’ running back depth will be tested Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills.

On Wednesday, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel said starter Raheem Mostert will miss the Week 2 game due to a chest injury suffered in their season-opening win. He wasn’t ready to make the same determination for De’Von Achane, who is dealing with an ankle injury.

“We’ll see how it plays out today,” McDaniel said of Achane.

Behind Mostert and Achane on the depth chart is veteran Jeff Wilson Jr., who provided a spark to the Dolphins late in Week 1 with five carries for 26 yards. Miami also has fourth-round rookie Jaylen Wright, who impressed in preseason but was a healthy scratch Sunday.

In their season-opening win against the Arizona Cardinals, the Bills allowed 124 rushing yards, although nearly half came from the quarterback position with Kyler Murray escaping for 57 yards on five runs.

Both Mostert and Achane were listed as “did not practice” on the first two injury reports of the week; however, those are estimations of their hypothetical participation as the Dolphins didn’t practice Monday and held a walkthrough Tuesday.
