Report: Riley Leonard suffered an injury against Northern Illinois

That may explain his play this past weekend

As we all saw on Saturday afternoon, Notre Dame football quarterback [autotag]Riley Leonard[/autotag] took a hit that left him pretty jarred against Northern Illinois.

The transfer stuck it out, and played the remainder of the game. This could have very well been why he was so ineffective, as on Tuesday it was reported by Pete Nakos of On3 that Leonard injured his posterior labrum of his non-throwing shoulder on that hit.

His sources also said that they expect Leonard to play this weekend, reiterating what head coach [autotag]Marcus Freeman[/autotag] said on Monday during his press conference. What’s interesting is that there was no thought to replace him during the game, even with the injury.

Personally, I find it very odd that Freeman would continue to send Leonard out there with the injury, even if it was to his non-throwing shoulder. There is potential that this gets worse, so we may see one of the backups this weekend as the Irish are set of hit the road against Purdue.
