Around the NFL: Russell Wilson likely to miss 2nd-straight game

Former Seattle Seahawks and Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson is currently on his third team of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Unfortunately, the start to Wilson’s tenure in the Steel City has not gone according to plan. Despite winning the quarterback battle over Justin Fields in the preseason, Wilson missed Week 1 with a calf injury.

Fields took over for Wilson against the Falcons in Atlanta. While Fields was hardly dynamic, he did lead the Steelers to a win. Or, more accurately, Fields did enough to get the offense within kicking range for Chris Boswell, who scored all the points for Pittsburgh with his six field goals in their 18-10 win.

Unfortunately for Wilson, it appears he will not make his Steelers debut next Sunday either. As reported by ESPN’s Brooke Pryor, Pittsburgh is planning on going with Fields once more due to Wilson’s injury.

Injuries at any point are an unfortunate reality, but this comes at a disappointing time for Wilson. In Week 2, the Steelers are scheduled to be back on the road to play the Broncos in Denver. Wilson will not have an opportunity to play his former team and earn a shot at “revenge” over Sean Payton for how poorly he was treated in his final year.
