New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez played a big role in his team’s 16-10 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. He blanketed Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase and held him to just three receptions for 14 yards.
Gonzalez covered some of the best receivers well last season, including Tyreek Hill, A.J. Brown and Garrett Wilson. However, his year was cut short after a season-ending shoulder injury.
Now, he is back healthy and picking right back up where he left off in his rookie season. He helped the Patriots defense stifle an explosive Bengals offense, holding them to only 224 total yards and 10 points overall.

The buzz around Gonzalez has been strong ever since he arrived in New England.
Performances like the one on Sunday will undoubtedly add to it. The Oregon product has been tabbed as a potential future star at cornerback. He certainly made a strong statement in Week 1 against Chase.
