Colts’ HC Shane Steichen calls Richardson’s pass to Pierce a top throw he’s seen

Colts’ head coach Shane Steichen called the touchdown pass from Anthony Richardson to Alec Pierce probably the best throw he’s seen.

It wasn’t only us who were impressed with Anthony Richardson’s 60-yard touchdown pass to Alec Pierce, but Colts’ head coach Shane Steichen was as well.

“That was probably the best throw I’ve ever seen,” said Steichen on Monday.

On the Colts’ second possession of the game, Richardson and the offense faced a first-and-10. Lined up in shotgun, Richardson took the snap and briefly lost his footing before regaining.

Trying to avoid the pressure that was coming, Richardson, who even appeared to be off-balance, showcased that elite arm talent and ripped a 60-plus yard strike, hitting Pierce in stride as he was able to get behind the two defenders. And just like that, the Colts were on the board.

Steichen also mentioned that the only other time he had seen a pass like that was back in 2020 when he was with the Los Angeles Chargers, who were facing the Kansas City Chiefs. In that game, Patrick Mahomes rolled to his right and connected downfield with Tyreek Hill.

Richardson finished the game completing 9-of-19 passes, including three completion of 50 or more yards, for 212 yards with two touchdowns to one interception. He currently ranks second among quarterbacks in QBR.

While it wasn’t a perfect performance with there still being missed throws from Richardson, he also displayed the sky-high ceiling he possesses.
