There was a very appropriate jersey exchange following the final whistle of the Buffalo Bills’ season-opening win against the Arizona Cardinals.
In a meeting near the middle of the field at Highmark Stadium after the 34-28 final, Bills safety Damar Hamlin and Cardinals running back James Conner exchanged jerseys.
It’s a longtime tradition in sports, but with these two, it felt right.
Both players attended the University of Pittsburgh. More than that, they’ve overcome life-threating battles.
In Buffalo, everyone is well aware of Hamlin’s scary cardiac arrest during a game. Years prior, Conner was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma back in 2015.
In a fantastic sight, both continued to live out their NFL dreams in Orchard Park on Sunday.
