When the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Atlanta Falcons, Justin Fields will be the starting quarter. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo, Fields took all the first-team reps in warm ups. Kyle Allen will serve as the backup and Russell Wilson will be inactive.
Wilson was limited at the end of the week in practice as he re-aggravated the calf injury that cost him much of training camp and the preseason. Wilson traveled with the team to Atlanta despite being limited and he did try to go in pregame. However, the team didn’t like what they saw enough for Wilson to be active.
With Wilson inactive, the team will not have a No. 3 quarterback in uniform this week against Atlanta.
UPDATE
After it being initially reported that Wilson would be inactive, Steelers beat writer has updated that Wilson will indeed be the team’s emergency quarterback. Allen will remain the No. 2 quarterback.
