Around the NFL: Packers QB Jordan Love injured in loss to Eagles

On Friday night, the NFL featured the first ever regular season game in South America. The Philadelphia Eagles took on the Green Bay Packers in São Paulo, Brazil as part of the Week 1 kick off festivities. The Eagles outlasted the Packers and won a 34-29 game that went back and forth. Unfortunately, an otherwise great game was marred by a potentially devastating injury at the end.

Facing a Hail Mary situation, the Packers were trying to give themselves a shot at a miracle, when quarterback Jordan Love got tangled up in Philadelphia’s defensive line. With only fifteeen seconds left in the game, Love had to leave with an injury to his leg. The video can be seen in the tweet below:

No one wants to see an injury like this happen, at any point in the game, or to any player. It was a terrible conclusion to an otherwise strong night from the Green Bay starter, who completed 17-of-34 passes for 260 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.

The good news is it appears (for now, at least) that Love’s ACL is in tact, according to Tom Pelissero. However, Love is certainly not out of the woods.

Of course, one cannot help but think about the condition of the field the teams were playing on. One of the more consistent debates around the league is the usage of natural grass or artificial turf. Well, once more, on a nationally televised game where it was played on natural grass, we see the poor quality of the field.

Hopefully, the injury to Love is not as serious as it seems. Otherwise, the Packers season could be over before it begins.
