Blue-chip’s commitment to Florida ‘the same’ after Week 1 loss to Miami

The loss to Miami last Saturday did nothing to affect 4-star tight end Tae’shaun Gelsey’s commitment to the Florida Gators.

The Florida football took a punch to the gut last Saturday when the Miami Hurricanes blew through the Swamp to seize a 41-17 victory. It was the first home-opening loss for the Gators since 1989 and the points surrendered represent the most ever in that scenario.

The fallout from the devastating defeat has reached off the field, with fans and the media alike clamoring over the debacle witnessed inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Worse yet, there were many recruits on hand to witness the events, with reactions ranging from devastating to patient.

Among those on hand was four-star tight end commit Tae’shaun Gelsey out of Jacksonville (Florida) Riverside in the 2025 cycle, who verbally pledged to the Orange and Blue at the end of June. While others might be wavering in their interest, the pass-catching end remains resolved in his commitment to Billy Napier and Co.

Gelsey’s reaction to his Swamp visit

“The environment was crazy. That was the craziest environment I’ve been in,” Gelsey told Gators Online.

“It wasn’t the outcome everyone expected, but there is a lot of room for improvement. They are going to come out with the win this Saturday. They just need to clean up some things and they will be all right.”

Talking about the Miami loss

“I spoke to (tight ends) coach (Russ) Callaway before and after the game; I spoke to (Billy) Napier at the Gator Walk; I spoke to (quality control – wide receivers) coach (Chad) Lucas at Gator Walk, and then I talked to (wide receivers) coach Billy G(onzales) after the game, so I got the chance to talk to all of them,” Gelsey said.

“(Coach Callaway) was like, ‘That was hard to watch.’ But in my mind, our first week’s game was pretty much the same thing. We just had a bad game and the chemistry wasn’t there at the time, but we came back this week and won. I think they will do the same.”

Recruiting Summary

Gelsey is ranked No. 395 overall and No. 60 at his position nationally according to the 247Sports composite while the On3 industry ranking has him at Nos. 381 and 21, respectively.
