Why Chiefs-Ravens kickoff is delayed on the first day of the 2024 NFL season

Inclement weather played a part in delaying Chiefs-Ravens on Thursday.

NFL fans tuning into Thursday Night Football will have to wait just a bit longer to see the first game of the 2024 season.

Thursday night’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens was delayed by 20 minutes — from an 8:20 p.m. ET start to an 8:40 p.m. ET start — due to some inclement weather rolling through the region. Specifically, a thunderstorm blew on through Kansas City as the teams were on the field for pregame warmups.

Thankfully, the storms came and went pretty quickly, despite the heavy rain and lightning strikes in the area. The storm, however, still caused a delay so the teams could finish their pregame warmups before game time.
