Raiders have one of NFL’s youngest teams

Few teams in the NFL are younger than the Raiders.

Remember when Jon Gruden was the head coach and the Raiders became somewhat of a laughing stock for employing older players? Jason Witten after coming out of retirement comes to mind.

Well, times have changed. The Raiders are in a rebuild and that means they are pretty young overall.

How young?

If you really break it down by months —as bookies.com did — there are still just six teams younger; the next four being the Eagles, Chargers, Buccaneers, Broncos, Rams, and Packers.

The Raiders have 26 players on their roster who are still on their rookie contracts. And they have ten rookies currently on the active roster — seven drafted, three undrafted. And they have 20 players under the age of 25 compared to just four over the age of 30.

The oldest teams in the league? Well, they’re not really that much older on average. Those teams are the Bills, Panthers, Bengals at 27 years, 5 months. Followed by the Vikings and Dolphins at 27 years, 4 months.

What does this all mean? Who knows, really. It’s just interesting to note, mostly.
