Former Gators WR Ricky Pearsall treated for gunshot, released from hospital

Former Gator and first-round pick Ricky Pearsall is out of the hospital and recovering at home.

Former Florida wide receiver and San Francisco 49ers first-round draft pick [autotag]Ricky Pearsall[/autotag] was shot in the chest on Saturday during a robbery attempt in central San Francisco. At the time, it was first reported that he was in “stable condition” with a gunshot wound to the chest.

The good news is that Pearsall was released from the San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center on Sunday after being upgraded to “fair condition” earlier. His mother posted on social media that the bullet exited her son’s back and missed his vital organs, noting that he was “extremely lucky.”

The suspect, a 17-year-old male from Tracy, California, was arrested Saturday just after the incident, according to San Francisco Police Chief William Scott.

“A struggle between Mr. Pearsall and the suspect ensued and gunfire from the suspect’s gun struck both Mr. Pearsall and the subject,” Scott offered on Saturday during a news briefing.

His nascent teammate Deebo Samuel Sr. posted a sigh of relief on social media.

The 49ers selected Pearsall with the 31st pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. He spent three years with the Arizona State Sun Devils before transferring to Florida for his final two seasons.

Over 25 games as a Gator, Pearsall reeled in 98 receptions for 1,626 yards and nine touchdowns. He also added 175 rushing yards and three more scores on 11 carries.
