Sean Payton gives update on Courtland Sutton’s trade status

“There’s been multiple teams call about Courtland [Sutton],” Broncos coach Sean Payton said. “He’s a good football player.”

After the San Francisco 49ers reached a big extension with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk last week, The Athletic‘s Dianna Russini reported that the Niners previously offered a third-round pick to the Denver Broncos for Courtland Sutton.

Broncos coach Sean Payton addressed recent trade interest in Sutton during his Zoom call with local media members on Monday.

“Probably in the last two, three months For me to comment on every call that comes into [GM] George [Paton] or myself would be ludicrous.”

Payton seemed to imply that talks with the 49ers about Sutton did not go far and the third-round pick report might have been an exaggeration.

The Broncos previously spurned trade interest from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Rams earlier this year, and the Baltimore Ravens had an offer for Sutton rejected last offseason.

Denver’s not interested in trading Sutton — at least not for the picks they’ve been offered thus far. The NFL’s trade deadline is Tuesday, Nov. 5.
