The San Francisco 49ers have released a statement on rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall after he was shot during a robbery attempt on Saturday. Pearsall suffered a gunshot to the chest and is in “serious but stable condition” after being transported to a hospital.

The shooting occurred when the suspect attempted to rob Pearsall in Union Square in San Francisco. The suspect, who was arrested, also suffered a gunshot wound to his arm, according to reports.

“San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was the victim of an attempted robbery and shooting this afternoon.

“He sustained a bullet wound to his chest and is in serious but stable condition. We ask that you please respect his privacy at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ricky and the entire Pearsall family.”

Pearsall was drafted by the 49ers in the first round this year. He played college football at the University of Florida.
