Washington State puts up 70 points without Cam Ward

In the first game since Cam Ward transferred, Washington State went for 70

While Cam Ward began a campaign for a place in the Heisman Trophy running against Florida, his former school was starting a new life.

Washington State is in the Pac-12 with Oregon State. Ward transferred from the Cougars to the Hurricanes, leading them to a romp over Florida in the Swamp.

Meanwhile, Washington State put a beating on Portland State, scoring 70 points and winning by 40.

The Cougars went for 637 yards and 413 came through the air.

John Mateer was 10-of-16 for 293 passing yards and five touchdowns.

Ward threw for 6,968 yards and 48 touchdowns at Washington State in two seasons.

Mateer threw for 235 yards last year backing up Ward.
