The Iowa Hawkeyes more than took care of business in their Week 1 victory over the Illinois State Redbirds. The Hawkeyes got things clicking on all three cylinders as they ballooned the score in the second half to a 40-0 win.
The offense took some time to get going but received an infusion of life with Kaleb Johnson rushing for 119 yards and two touchdowns. The star of the offense came in the passing game as freshman Reece Vander Zee reeled in two touchdown receptions.
As usual, Iowa’s defense did their thing and held the Redbirds to a shutout. They allowed just 189 total yards and had things in control throughout the entire game with seemingly no blown assignments.
With the Cy-Hawk rivalry coming up, Iowa handled their business in dominant fashion and moved to 1-0 in a strong showing. Take a look at the Iowa Hawkeyes’ season-opening win over Illinois State through the best photos.
